Trading Term VWAP

Volume Weighted Average Price Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP)

The average price of a stock weighted by volume traded throughout the session.

VWAP anchors price to traded volume: VWAP = Cumulative (Price × Volume) ÷ Cumulative Volume. It resets each trading day and acts as an institutional benchmark — large funds aim to execute near VWAP to minimise market impact. On NSE, intraday traders use VWAP as a dynamic support/resistance: a stock consistently above VWAP is considered bullish for that session; repeatedly failing to reclaim it is bearish. Because VWAP accounts for volume distribution, it is a more market-aware benchmark than a simple time-weighted average.
