STBT (Sell Today, Buy Tomorrow) is the bearish counterpart of BTST — you initiate a short position today and close it tomorrow. In the cash equity segment, genuine STBT requires that you already hold the shares in your demat; otherwise it is a short-delivery situation. In practice, most retail traders use the Futures & Options segment to execute STBT-style overnight short positions on Nifty or individual stocks, since futures allow clean short-selling without requiring prior ownership of shares.
