The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) was established in 1992 under the SEBI Act as a statutory body with powers to regulate exchanges, brokers, intermediaries, and listed companies. It issues rules on disclosure, insider trading, derivatives design, and investor protection. For retail traders, SEBI's decisions directly affect broker margins, contract sizes, weekly-expiry availability, and settlement cycles. Any grievance against a broker or exchange can be escalated to SEBI's SCORES portal.
