Return on Equity Return on Equity (ROE)
Net profit generated per rupee of shareholders' equity. shareholders
Return on equity (ROE) measures how efficiently a company uses shareholders' capital to generate profit: ROE = Net Profit ÷ Shareholders' Equity × 100. An ROE of 20% means the company earns ₹20 for every ₹100 of equity. Consistently high ROE — say, above 15–20% over several years — is a hallmark of quality Indian businesses in sectors like consumer goods and private banking. However, a high ROE inflated by excessive debt can be misleading, so pair it with the D/E ratio.
Return on equity (ROE)
