Price-to-Earnings Ratio P/E
How many rupees you pay for each ₹1 of a company's yearly earnings.
The price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio divides a stock's price by its earnings per share: P/E = Price ÷ EPS. It shows how expensive a stock is relative to its profits. A Nifty 50 stock trading at ₹2,000 with an EPS of ₹100 has a P/E of 20 — you pay ₹20 for every ₹1 of annual earnings. A high P/E can signal strong growth expectations or overvaluation, so compare it with industry peers and the company's own history rather than reading it in isolation.
