Positional trading involves holding a stock or futures position for weeks to several months, betting on a larger structural trend rather than a short-term fluctuation. A positional trader might buy a PSU bank stock after a quarterly earnings breakout and hold it for three months targeting a 20–30% move. Wider stop-losses and larger price targets characterise the style. Unlike investing, positional traders primarily use technical trends and macro catalysts rather than deep fundamental research to time entries and exits.
Positional trading में कोई stock या futures position हफ़्तों से लेकर कई महीनों तक होल्ड की जाती है — किसी बड़े structural trend पर दाँव लगाया जाता है, न कि short-term उतार-चढ़ाव पर। एक positional trader किसी PSU bank stock को quarterly earnings breakout के बाद ख़रीद सकता है और तीन महीने तक होल्ड कर 20–30% move target कर सकता है। इस style की पहचान है चौड़े stop-losses और बड़े price targets। investing के उलट, positional traders entry-exit timing के लिए deep fundamental research की बजाय technical trends और macro catalysts पर ज़्यादा भरोसा करते हैं।
