Market capitalisation (market cap) is the total rupee value of a company's outstanding shares: Market Cap = Current Share Price × Total Shares Outstanding. If a company has 10 crore shares trading at ₹500 each, its market cap is ₹5,000 crore. Market cap is used to gauge a company's size, compare it with peers, and classify it as large-cap, mid-cap, or small-cap. It changes every second as the share price moves, even though the share count stays constant.
