Intraday trading (also called day trading) means all buy and sell orders are completed within the same NSE/BSE trading session — typically 9:15 am to 3:30 pm. Any open position at close is auto-squared off by the broker. Intraday traders pay a lower STT (0.025% on the sell side only, as of 2026) versus delivery, but short-term capital gains tax at 20% applies to profits. The style suits traders who want to avoid overnight gap risk and free up capital daily.
