Enterprise Value Enterprise Value (EV)
Total takeover cost of a company — market cap plus debt, minus cash.
Enterprise value (EV) represents what an acquirer would truly pay to buy a company outright, accounting for both equity and debt obligations: EV = Market Cap + Total Debt − Cash & Cash Equivalents. A Nifty 50 company with a ₹1 lakh crore market cap, ₹20,000 crore debt, and ₹5,000 crore cash has an EV of ₹1.15 lakh crore. EV is more complete than market cap for cross-company comparisons because it captures the balance-sheet structure, and it serves as the numerator in multiples like EV/EBITDA.
