Earnings Per Share Earnings Per Share (EPS)
Net profit a company earns for each outstanding share.
Earnings per share (EPS) is the portion of a company's net profit attributed to each equity share: EPS = Net Profit ÷ Shares Outstanding. It is the foundation of many valuation ratios, including P/E. If a Nifty 50 company earns ₹10,000 crore net profit with 500 crore shares outstanding, its EPS is ₹20. Rising EPS over several years signals improving profitability, while falling EPS — even with a rising share price — can indicate stretched valuations.
