DP (Depository Participant) charges are levied by your broker — acting as a DP of CDSL or NSDL — each time shares are debited from your demat account upon a delivery sell. The charge is per-scrip per day, not a percentage of value, so selling a single stock in one transaction costs the same as selling a large quantity of the same stock that day. DP charges apply only to delivery trades; intraday positions that close the same day do not touch the demat account and are therefore not charged. Rates vary by broker.
