About the APY Calculator

The Atal Pension Yojana (APY) is a government pension scheme for workers in the unorganised sector. You contribute a small amount monthly until age 60, after which you receive a guaranteed monthly pension of ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 for life.

This calculator estimates the monthly contribution needed for your chosen pension, approximating the scheme's official contribution chart. The actual amount depends on the age you join.

Frequently asked questions

How is the APY contribution decided?

It depends on the pension you choose (₹1,000–₹5,000) and the age you join — the younger you start, the smaller the monthly contribution, because it has longer to build. This calculator approximates the official chart; the exact figure is fixed by the scheme.

Who can join APY?

Any Indian citizen aged 18 to 40 with a bank or post office account. Because the maximum joining age is 40, you contribute for at least 20 years before the pension starts at 60.

What pension amounts does APY offer?

A guaranteed monthly pension of ₹1,000, ₹2,000, ₹3,000, ₹4,000 or ₹5,000 from age 60, for life. The same pension continues to your spouse, and the accumulated corpus is returned to nominees afterwards.

Is the APY pension guaranteed?

Yes — the pension is guaranteed by the Government of India, which makes up any shortfall if the scheme's returns fall short. That guarantee is APY's defining feature.

Does APY have tax benefits?

Contributions qualify for a deduction under Section 80CCD(1), similar to NPS. The pension received after 60 is taxable as income in the year you receive it.
